The Chelmsford General Practice Vocational Training Scheme is based at Broomfield Hospital with some GP specialist training posts based at St. John"s Hospital or The Linden Centre.
Specialist trining posts exist in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Care of the Elderly, Medicine with sessions in Dermatology, Accident & Emergency, ENT, Oncology, Respiratory Medicine and Psychiatry. Our aim is to produce a flexible four post rotation to suit individual needs. The three year rotation culminates with the year in General Practice where you will continue your learning and take the nMRCGP exam, passing which, will allow you to practice as a General Practitioner.
Throughout the three years of the Scheme, trainees attend the half-day educational course based at the Academic Centre at Broomfield Hospital on Mondays from 1.00 pm to 4.30 pm. The programme is varied and enjoyable, ranging from traditional medical topics to alternative medicine and debate on current political issues in the NHS.
Towards the end of the academic year there is a three-day Residential Course, at present held in Cumberland Lodge, a splendid Royal Residence in Windsor Great Park. The content of the course varies according to needs and demand, but is always great fun and there is time to explore the park facilities.
